Cows!

Image
Today's post is on our Cows. We have had them for three years, when we first bought them we had about fifty head, and then that winter, quite a few of the cows calved, and we had just over sixty head. The Cows we got were Scottish Highland Cattle, which are commonly mistaken for Yaks; with their long hair, and big horns. We Pasture raise and Pasture finish our cows so they get no grain, which is better for the animal's health, and our health as well. Scottish Highlands live a long life, some have been known to live into their late twenties, and still Calve every year, although this happens, it is not always the case, so, the next year we began thinning the herd, we had several Cows who were in their twenties, that had not calved the year before, we also got rid of the old bull, his name was Shane, and he was sixteen years old, we had a younger bull, he was three at the time, and his name was Guinness, he was a black Scottish Highland bull. Speech and Debate

Last year, (as well as this year)  I joined a speech and debate club called Heartfire. At Heartfire we prepare speeches, learn to do impromptu speeches, and make debate cases for the NCFCA region three tournaments. at these tournaments, we compete by giving our speeches and debating against other Middle-Highschool age kids. there are a few different levels of tournaments, the first level is regional qualifiers, where anyone affiliated with NCFCA, can go speak and/or debate. the second level of tournaments is the regional championships, which is where if you got into the semi-finals of one of the qualifiers, you then go speak and/or debate again if you place first or second in any of the speech or debate events you are then invited to the National championship. last year, I got into the semi-finals, and finals at a qualifier tournament, I was then invited to the regional championship, that was supposed to take place in Gillette, Wyoming, but Due to Covid-19, it was canceled, ...

First on the list is Goats. Ok, I know what your thinking, why of all things would I chose Goats?  Well, do you want the long story or the short story? long story? great! here it goes. About three years ago when we moved back here to Montrose, I bought three Sannen doelings and one pregnant Sannen Doe, the kids were two weeks old, and on a bottle schedule of being fed every three hours, including at night. The kid's names were: Chance, and then there were the twins which I named after goats out of Hiedi, Schwanley, and Barely. Fast forward six weeks later the kids were weaned, and Annie, who was my parents Sannen Doe at the time, kidded and had a very adorable doeling that Emma named Coconut cream popsicle. this was a very long name and so we shortened it to Coconut. A few weeks later t...
